The U Turn.
Recently several members contacted DIT to seek clarification on whether it is lawful to cross a solid centre line while completing a complex U Turn (generally crossing the solid centre line in the mouth of a terminating road at a T intersection). This was because SA Police have given advice and warnings to a number of people to say it is illegal.
DIT has clarified that their latest advice is that IT IS ILLEGAL to cross a solid centre line during a U Turn on any road unless there is a dotted line on our side of the solid line. Of course the contradicts the pictures that are in the DIT issued log books that we are all using
So DIT has immediately reprinted new log books and presumably shredded all old stocks. On the photo you can see the U Turn hurriedly re-designed in the newest version that is now in all service SA’s. Excuse my handwritten lines on one of the photos.
This makes it difficult to find suitable roads to complete U Turns on if you have a wide turning circle, but rules is rules. We’re all in it together.
